Product Features
LB CAST synthetic casting tape is manufactured from knitted polyester fiber impregnated with a water-activated polyurethane resin. The result is a strong, durable, lightweight, conformable, radiolucent, and porous cast.

Intended Use
LB CAST is intended for use in construction of most common orthopedic cast, external immobilization of fractures and other orthopedic conditions, providing there is no risk of swelling.

Application Instruction

  • Stockinet and Padding should always be applied over the entire area which is to be cast. If the cast is likely to get wet, synthetic(water shedding) stockinet and synthetic padding should be used.
  • Gloves should always be worn during application in order to avoid the resin in the tape from adhering to the skin or clothes.
  • Open only one roll at a time, since room humidity may initiate hardening. Immerse the roll of tape in room temperature water(20~25¡É / 70~75¢µ). While immersed, squeeze the bandage 3 ~ 5 times.
  • Remove the bandage from the water and squeeze out excess water. In order to lengthen the set time, immerse the roll and remove it immediately without squeezing.
¢Ñ The speed of setting can be changed by varying the number of squeezes, the time
immersed and the temperature of the water. Warmer water shortens the set time while
    cooler water lengthens it.
Inform the patient that he may feel an exotherm while the cast cures.
  • Apply the bandage in a spiral motion, overlapping turn one-half to two-thirds the width of the tape. As with any casts, take care to avoid excessive tightness.
  • 3 or 4 layers are needed for non weight-bearing area and 5 to 6 layers are typically adequate for weight-bearing cast. Additional layers will reduce porosity.
  • Smooth and rub the tape to achieve good contact between layers. And mould the cast.
  • The working time for unrolling and molding the cast is approximately 3-4 minutes.
  • The cast is weight-bearing in about 20 minutes.

Patient Instructions
The patient should be given the following instructions :

  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience the following ;
¢Ñ The cast feels too loose or too tight
¢Ñ You feel pressure or rubbing under the cast
¢Ñ A pins-and-needles sensation develops in the cast limb
¢Ñ Your fingers or toes become cold, numb or bluish in colour
¢Ñ A significant change or increase in pain occurs
  • Do not insert any objects under the cast.
  • Do not immerse the cast limb in water. However, if the cast does get wet, dry it thoroughly as soon as possible by blotting it with a towel then with a hair drier on a cool setting.
  • The cast may be cleaned using a damp cloth.

Cast Removal

LB CAST can be removed using standard cast removal techniques and equipment. Care should be taken to avoid injury to the patient and to avoid excessive heat build-up while cutting equipment is being used.
¢Ñ Removal of LB CAST does not generate fiberglass dust, and produces much less dust than fiberglass  product.

Precautions

Wet resin in LB CAST will adhere to skin and clothing, and may be a mild irritant. Always wear gloves to apply. Use alcohol or acetone to remove uncured resin. It is not necessary to use excessive amounts of material. Do not use where there is a risk of swelling. For cast windows, leave for 10 minutes after application before commencing cutting.

Product Storage
Care should be taken to avoid puncturing pouch as this will cause the tape to harden prematurely in the package. It is recommended that this product be stored at room temperature(20~25¡É / 70~75¢µ). Higher or lower temperature may affect the self life. Each pouch, esp. edge sides of the roll, should be gently squeezed prior to opening to check suitability for application. The roll should be soft and pliant. Do not use tape that feels hard. Each box and pouch is marked with the date of manufacture. For optimum performance, ROTATE STOCK.

Flammability
Finished LB CAST will support combustion under normal circumstances. Uncured polyurethane tapes will burn over an open flame.
